Frank,
mine is as follows:
BP6 cel 533, overclocked to 600.
NJ bios
Guillemot Cougar 32 mb (Riva TNT2).
No sound card, built for web server. Dual boot with win98.
BTW, abit distributes their version of linux in the bp6 retail box, it's
actually RH 6.2 with
some abit built utilities.
You may want to take a look at bp6.com, the message board and people there
are helpful.
There are so many BP6 boards out there, virtually no problem is new.
For linux, geocrawler.com has a nice searchable archive of many linux
related issues, esp. with
drivers. 2cpu.com has good links as well.
Sounds like your os is not detecting the correct video driver/settings,
which explains the display issue.
I had a very bad one, it flickered so much and made me dizzy, until used the
Xconfigurator to
auto probe the video card/monitor.
Now it's displaying correctly even though the card doesn't support linux.
If you think tulip driver is bad, try that on powerPC box. It's a nightmare.
Linux is powerful but requires enormous amount of baby-sitting, the
documentation is esp. problematic.
And no knowledgebase to search for work-around. I don't mind work on the
system, but the amount of time
spent sifting through info could be spent elsewhere. I reckon it's a
love/hate relationship.
Best,
Sheldon
