I don't know if I'd say they "need" to do this, but I definitely second any idea that would allow an upgrade on a live system. We have 100's of stores with 5+ Linux boxes in each that we have no computer savy workers on site to walk through upgrades. Everything we do has to be through remote management. This would help facilitate this.
