I applied a heap of security updates to RHL 4.2 a while back. Updates included 
libc, apache, bash (not security, but nice to have bash-2).

I restarted some of the daemons, but I certainly DID NOT reboot. It ran some 
weeks after that before rebooting (the next power failure).

I would not do a holus-bolus upgrade while the system's running, but in my 
experience, Mike's fears are not well-founded.

For that matter, I see no good reason to upgrade 6.1 to 6.2. By all means, 
apply bits of 6,2 as the need arises; the packages fit just fine. OTHO, if you 
upgrade, lots of deamons are likely to be reconfigured. Candidates include 
sendmail, dhcpd, apache...
