What's a problem refresh rate for one person can be ok for someone else.
It's important to try resolutions and refresh rates to find something
acceptable to you.  I once used an interlaced display at 30Hz.  It
drove everyone else crazy, but was fine by me.  Similarly, I was
running a 15" monitor at 1150x850 or so.  8^)

But I agree, try to go above 800x600 if at all possible.  I'm on a
laptop that size right now, and it's an annoyance.
