I actually looked at xli while developing anaconda code. We chose
python because it's incredibly easy to use, read, and maintain. It
has all the OO features we want without strange syntax. I think Perl
is fine for groking files with regexes and coming up with quick hacks,
but I don't think that perl is viable when it comes to a long term,
multi maintainer project.
