BUTTERMILK PICNIC CAKE

1 c. shortening
3 c. sugar
4 eggs
4 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. mashed bananas
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 tbsp. vanilla
Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Mix
and sift flour, baking powder, soda and salt. Add gradually to shortening 
mixture.
Combine last 3 ingredients and add. Beat until well blended. Bake in greased and
floured 9x13 glass pan, 50-60 minutes, 350 degrees. Cool in pan.

BUTTERMILK PICNIC CAKE FROSTING
1 c. brown sugar (packed)
1/2 c. butter (melted)
1/4 c. milk
3 c. confectioners' sugar (sifted)
Combine brown sugar, butter and milk in saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring 
constantly.
Remove from heat, cool 10 minutes. Gradually add confectioners' sugar beating 
until
well blended.  Enjoy.
