David,
 The brushes are a variable wear item but when they go the unit is down, I
have seen brushes worn down to the ribbon in under 2000 hrs and some go
twice that and are still OK, As they wear rotor scuff can be an issue plus
as they wear the tension gets weaker and its more prone to build up on the
rotors and that can result in a false failure, but hey that's just me, I
would do it now before the weather sets in and it stops working,
