Wrenches, I've used several Iota charges over the years, now I am struggling with 2 systems in my neighborhood that use Iota Model DLS27-40. It's a decent enough 40A charger for a 24V LA battery bank but it has a big negative quirk for a rental house I'm renovating and about to put on the market.
The Iota sometimes (randomly once every few generator charges) will not initiate charging until I disconnect it from the batteries. The OutBack inverter in both systems without fail begin charge cycles but every few times the Iota will need the breaker to the batteries to be cycled off. This happens in two systems, one with a Honda 7000i generator and the other with a Generac 6k Eco-Gen LP gas unit. With my daughter being the tenant in the rental house the past 5 years it was something I could check up on easily but with a new tenant coming in soon I'd rather not have to be entering the house once a week in the winter to reset the Iota. Two questions. 1. Is there a fix for this quirk in the Iota? 2. Is there a viable alternative to Iota in a 30 to 40A charger for LA batteries? I have another system close by that uses an old Magnum inverter/charger MM1524AE only as a secondary charger on that system with great results. It's not used it as an inverter just for charging when the generator is run. Never has given me any problems. If anyone has one of these that they want to sell , please let me know off list. It would replace the Iota nicely. Thanks, Dave Palumbo Hyde Park, VT
