yes, each 2kw battery module has on-board electronics which the BMU regulates, trying to maintain equal charge/discharge. This is viewable real-time in the BI HV Ageto controller display (per BMU cabinet). My particular HV install has a 50' DC bus w/ inputs and outputs attached at various points. No consideration to cable lengths required.
