LG was one of the first players in 2016 for resdential storage. They are
a huge manufacturer of NMC type lithium batteries. We all know now that is
type of battery NMC is not as safe as type LFP, all other things being
equal. The cell type we used is still the upgrade option in the Tesla
Roadster BTW.

I thought it was unreasonable that they did not want to
find the root cause of the failure here with Schneider XW. It is their
company and I got over it. Schneider was great and they also learned alot.
Discover AES was in the loop with the failure here and learned also. Many
of the folks at AES are from Schneider. AES engineered out all of the bad
design choices that LG made and hit a homerun.

The failure symtom was a
blown 200A fuse with little load at 85% Soc. Replacing the fuse, the
battery came on and showed 98% Sol or battery health. A new fuse was
installed and the battery BMS powered up and blew the 200A fuse in a couple
seconds. We tried a few DC 48V rated small loads to rule out the inrush of
an XW. We tried a different XW and also tried a CSW. Lot's of blown
fuses...My guess was a cell breaking down under load.

Still trying to
recycle this bad battery responsibly. I know what is done currently in my
area and it is not pretty. Anyone with advice? LG was of no help here also.
The other LG RESU 10 here is fine but we limit it to a CSW and 1/2 of the
rated charge current.

It is on my list to send a check to the Wrench boss
here this week! Cheers !

A while back we went to a
presentation put on at our local Greentech dealer. Speaking was a rep from
LG Chem and from SolarEdge. I asked the LG rep if there had been any
production problems with the LG production line. He said with a straight
face there were no problems and we should order now before they ran out. I
pulled up a trade article on my phone about a shut down in the production
line at LG Chem and we passed it around in the back of the room and
sniggered.

I am not saying all LG Chem reps are liars but this one sure
was. I hope this behavior is not encouraged by LG Chem. Hearing a poor
report on the recall is further evidence that LG Chem may not be a good
company to buy product from. What is the overall sataisfaction level
amongst this forum members with LG CHem?

Energy Solution Battery Recall

I suspect that if you didn't hear about
it, you might not have any effected batteries.

The recall has been
disorganized. We had about 7 batteries under recall. LGC had some 3rd party
outfit that was going to go to customer homes and do the swap-out and we
said, "oh, no...we'll replace the batteries for our customers thank
you."

I still have three batteries with unconfirmed replacement. The
shortage of old style Resu10 batteries means they must, in their own words,
buy these batteries off the open market place to provide back to us and end
consumers under recall. Crazy.

Now I am a big fan of the LG Prime 16 so
far. Nice looking package and just the right amount of storage. But the LG
oversight of the recall could have been done better especially comms with
installers that didn't have recalls so they could allay fears of homeowners
that might have read a headline and wondered if their battery was a safety
hazard.

Whoa...amazing that almost 1/2 year after the recall that I'm now just
hearing about this.

How has LGC been as far as responsive and easy to
work with on this recall?

Wrenches,

I testted the RESU 10 48V here for
Schneider back in 2017. LG never really wanted to know the root cause of
the failure and cancelled the use of XW with their battery. One of my
Austrailian friends sent me this about the recall.

In December last year,
LG Energy Solution triggered a voluntary recall in the USA [11] after
receiving five reports of fires resulting in minor property damage. These
incidents were associated with LG Chem RESU 10H residential energy storage
systems with specific serial numbers sold from January 2017 through March
2019. The recall involved around 1,800 battery systems.

On Friday, a
recall notice was posted on the Product Safety Australia web site for the
following models with cells manufactured between March 2017 and September
2018 from certain production lots.

        * RESU7H_Type R
        * RESU10
        *
RESU10H Type-C
        * RESU10H_Type R
