We only had a single installation of the Aqueons – you know, bleeding edge
stuff.

We installed 12 stacks and of them, 5 stopped taking a charge after a year
of operation.

The entire bank was never stiff enough to work well – constantly swinging
voltage that has become too wide of a swing to program the system to operate
reliably or smoothly.

I was not here for the installation, however in speaking with those who
were, it seems that they were handled per the installation instructions.

How many of these are going bad? Is this a major problem, or has
mismanagement ruined a few?

I was lucky that my local county Hazo-house took a look at the MSDS and said
drop them off. The person there saw my big MSDS printout and said uh oh, but
then she knew just where to look and said fine no problem drop them off. Too
bad not everyone is that knowledgeable about what they are looking at.

These are so much easier to move when you take them apart too. 30 lbs cell
blocks. Then you have some interesting parts to do something with. Attached
is a photo of my Super Aquion Gravel Tamper tool.  Some of the other
aluminum parts will get incorporated into one of my homemade telescopes.

Howdy wrenches,

Does anyone have any experience with disposing of the Aqueon battery stacks?

We have a number that have failed and our local waste station is balking,
regardless of how much hand-holding we provide and specifications, MSDS and
manufacturer info we supply.

We have been referred to the state Environmental Conservation Agency and
they are discussing haz-mat and recycling requirements with no understanding
of their components.

Any suggestions, recommendations or experience with recycling/disposing of
these batteries?

Thanks,

Glenn
