I've been moving a fair number of Marine grade diesel units. but still prefer Kohler for the propane crowd. db

John,
I continue to have good service with the EcoGen. I managed to burn mine up in a fire in May, due to factors completely unrelated to the unit. Our homeowner's insurance covered full replacement, and I chose the same model again for my own home.

This is the only Generac unit that I recommend, based on historic experiences of others. It's quite robust in design and build details. A limitation is that it's only currently available as a 6kW unit, either straight 120V (default) or 120/240. Mine could run fine above altitude-derated maximum output, which is important with an Outback VFX inverter.

It's a bit more expensive than Kohler's 8.5, and much less than the few water-cooled 1800 RPM units still made, such as Gillette's (I think).

Allan

My trusted Kohler dealer recently passed away and now that I don;t have a good source of generators and service expertise to draw on, I am once again entertaining the thought of selling the Generac Eco-Gen.  Their PR makes it sound like they have a great new generator for the off-grid market.  I am looking for comments/ experience with the new generator.   I have always tried to have and use most of what I sell but I already have two generators at home that work great.  I have several new off-grid customers asking me for suggestions.  I also have an aging Kohler 8.5 (2300 hours- but running very well) ) on a mouintaintop transmitter I service which may need some help down the road. Any generator related comments appreciated.
