John,
I continue to have good service with the EcoGen. I managed to burn mine up in a fire in May, due to factors completely unrelated to the unit. Our homeowner's insurance covered full replacement, and I chose the same model again for my own home. This is the only Generac unit that I recommend, based on historic experiences of others. It's quite robust in design and build details. A limitation is that it's only currently available as a 6kW unit, either straight 120V (default) or 120/240. Mine could run fine above altitude-derated maximum output, which is important with an Outback VFX inverter. It's a bit more expensive than Kohler's 8.5, and much less than the few water-cooled 1800 RPM units still made, such as Gillette's (I think). Allan
