I imagine they are solar charge controllers. Diversion charge controllers as used on wind and hydro systems do not have access to the battery current to measure it. I am not sure how the solar ones can 'know' the battery charge current without knowing the load current (to inverter) but maybe there is a controller with an external shunt or something? I'd like to hear about that.
