Our first ever, since 2004, ahj red-tag for undersized meter wiring motivated us to rewire that one and two more identical pending meters on completed jobs. It's not that much more expensive and according to the meter base label, it's code. Still even though we got away with it all these years, if ahjs are getting smarter, I am too. Anyway ferrules don't increase wire ampacity, they only make cleaner connections. Jim Duncan
