Mick:
You must have a different manual than I do. Paragraph 5, page 12 of the
4.01 manual I have does not discuss this subject at all.
The passage I have, from page 68 says the following:
To manually equalize the batteries, AC power must be available at the AC
HOT IN 1 (utility power) or AC
HOT IN 2 (generator) terminals. If utility power is not available, the
generator must be manually started.
The inverter uses this power to start the battery charger and begin the
equalization process. Equalization
will continue to run for the amount of time programmed. When the
equalization process finishes, the
FLOAT LED will come on (as long as utility or generator power is still
available).
I thought I could start the generator using the "ON" function in the
Generator menu, but when I do that and then engage EQ, the generator stops
in a few minutes. It is not a big problem to start from the gen set
itself, I just want to know why.
Thanks,
William

I'm not sure which part of the manual to which you refer, but below is how
I interpret the middle of the fifth paragraph on page 12 of Version 4.01
of the book:
If the inverter is set up to remotely control the generator, select ON
from the SET GENERATOR menu item. Once the machine is running, move the
cursor beneath the EQ marker. The unit should then implement the EQ charge
parameters which can be reviewed under menu heading 10 before shutting the
generator down.
The last part of this paragraph confirms that the EQ setting can be
pre-selected so the controlled overcharge will occur with the next
auto-crank but I agree with you that it's better for the end user to
manually trigger the EQ charge.
The first part of this same paragraph confirms that if AC1 is energized
(which could be courtesy of a manually started generator in an off grid
situation) the green button cursor can be moved over to EQ as another way
of revving up the charge parameters but in this case the inverter cannot
turn off the generator when the EQ charge is completed.

Friends:
I have managed to confuse myself on the proper steps for equalizing
batteries with the SW inverter and I am hoping I can get some
clarification. The instructions indicate you can't start an equalization
manually. Instead it says that you must wait until the inverter starts
automatically after setting the control to EQ.
I very much prefer to have my customers equalize at a time specific so
they monitor the process was successful and know it was successful. I
thought I remembered that you could start the generator from the control
panel and then engage EQ, but with at least one client, the generator
shuts down right away. We made a brief experiment with starting the
generator from the gen set itself and then engaging EQ. My client was
leaving the premises shortly after I gave these new instructions so we
aborted the EQ until another day. In the meantime, I'd appreciate any
input any of you may have as to the best way to EQ with an SW inverter
using the generator input.
Thanks,
William Miller
PS: This inverter requires a three-wire start connection with the
"glow-stop" setting.
