Tony I read a nice tutorial on the 'net, but it's really not complicated. I'll describe the process for the stem. The stem had an unfinished forging parting line on the underside of the extension, so step one was some file work. I knocked down the parting line and hit any significant nicks or notches. Step two was to Easy-Off it for about 90 seconds. Just coat the thing with easy off and let it sit. This gives you a good head start with anodization. Then wet sand everything with 400 grit paper, until it looks uniformly scratchy everywhere. Then go again with 600, 1200 and finally 2000. Then polish with a little Simichrome polish and lots of clean cotton balls. Bob's your mothers brother!
