Mike met me at Little Scraggy parking lot outside of Buffalo Creek about 9am
this morning and we had a wondrous 4 hours of riding and leisurely hour lunch
on a warmish day for mid-November in Colorado. It started off in the 30’s and
warmed to the 40’s. We heard the winds in the trees, but didn’t feel them until
we entered the burn area on Shinglemill Trail.

No idea of distance and I’m not sure if Mike had a computer. We rode the
Colorado Trail over hill and dale, a few creeks, lots of roots and a few rock
gardens. Eventually the rifles in the distance we getting too close for my
brain, so we turned around and made a loop of it on the trails north of the CT.
We dropped down to Buffalo Creek Road, a nice double track that follows the
creek down, then turned up Shinglemill for a vigorous, fun, twisting smooth
climb through the Buffalo Creek Fire burn area. No trees meant the 30-40 mph
winds we’d been hearing had free access to us. I learned that winding single
track, steep climbing, and strong gusting cross winds do not play nicely with
vertigo. I limped along after that, making it back to the parking lot at 2pm.

MIke was a joy to ride with and I look forward to the next time we get to ride.
Thanks, Mike!

With abandon,
Patrick
