I'm trying V-brakes on my old LongLow custom, to see what the fuss is all about and whether they can stop me better than the cantilevers I've been using. I found a set of Tektro RX6 brakes on eBay, they have reach of 90mm. Some folks might call these mini-V's, but they're certainly not as long as the "standard" V-brakes. The constraints on my LongLow are the current brake levers (Tiagras on Noodles), the interrupters, and the Nitto mini-rack up front.
I was very pleased to note that the brake cable *just* clears the mounting bolt on the Nitto rack. If I had used shorter V-brakes, the cable would have hit the bolt. I was also very pleased that the existing levers pull enough cable for efficient stopping without bottoming on the handlebars. I can quick-release the brakes with a simple tug, not a problem, but I also have some adjustability with the barrels on the interrupters. They look good, very streamlined along the fork legs. And they brake quite nicely, so far. Sunday I'll give 'me a test on Claremont descent. - Andrew, Berkeley -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
