Patrick,
It's not about carbon vs. steel. It's about design and geometry. The only 
carbon bike that I have seen that looks good to me is the Calfee Adventure 
Bike. And, if I were to drop some cash on a new frameset, I would seriously 
consider that Calfee. But, it's hard to pull me from my nostalgic love of 
steel.
