I had the VO cranks on my randonneuring bike and really wanted to like them. The 46/30 gearing combined with a 13-28 6spd FW gave me all the gears I needed. Unfortunately, I had no confidence in the FW after one of them broke. I swapped out my rear wheel for one with an 8spd cassette. Then the issue was getting the chainline, FD and crank arms to all play nice. While I know others have made it work it just seemed more of a pain in the ass than it needed to be. All VO had to do was curve the drive side crank out a bit. The crank arms felt somewhat flexy but who knows. I just didn't have a lot of confidence in them. I swapped them out last year before a 1200k for a Sugino XD triple which worked fine. I imagine at some point I'll take the plunge and get the Rene Herse cranks.
