There have been some bad batches of Velocity rims. I bet if you contacted Velocity, they would replace the rim free of charge, but you would have to build up the wheels. All of my Velocity rims have been good so far. I hope it stays that way.
I built my first Mavic CXP wheel. It looks like a rim without eyelets, but they are hidden, so I imagine they would be stronger than say Velocity Aeroheads (which I also have).
