I have a Brooks B17 and a Selle Anatomica.  Both are better for me than my 
somewhat (but not that much) cheaper Specialized gel saddle.  SA is 
slightly more comfortable.  My guess is that you could probably find a much 
cheaper saddle and be comfortable if your bike is properly sized, your bars 
are high enough and, on longer rides, you wear padded shorts. But Brooks, 
as over-priced as it is, looks good, feels good, and matches a lugged steel 
bike much better than a plastic saddle.  And, compared to what some pay for 
pedals, carbon water bottle cages, and higher-end bike shorts, it's a 
bargain.
