Hi, Patrick. Glad you're liking the bag! I bought a Small, with trepidation, because I knew I could sometimes use the extra volume of a larger bag, but I have a cantilever setup that would require a Nitto gadget for it. Anyway, the Small is great and has a "just right" look behind my saddle...I just can't "go shopping" with it. I had a plastics place make a flat insert for the bottom when the coroplast started sagging....but your aluminum idea sounds like a better option. The plastic piece is a bit heavier than necessary.
The ends of the wooden dowel do make an impression on the leather strip just below the saddle, but I'm sure they've thought the design through nine ways to Sunday.
