So many good places...easy: Angel Island, like somebody suggested. Go to the site, register all legal-like, you'll need to take a ferry there (GET to take a ferry there is more like it)---and back to the mainland. Wonderful riding around there. Get a map and go. The tons and tons of firewood at one of the ranger's places is not guarded, and is totally burnable in the barbecues at the sites, but it's eucalyptus wood, and it does a bad number on meat. If you want to cook over fire....yikes, bring your own wood?
