God, how I hate snobbery on either side of the divide. If you want to ride in flip flops or Bikenstocks, by all means do so. I like riding, sometimes, in floppy Hawaiian shirts. But don't call those who use retention systems "fools" -- that just shows resentment and meanness. There is a purpose for retention systems, whether one prefers to forgo it or not; just as there is a purpose for pneumatic tires and thinwall tubing (Rivs are made of thinwall tubing).
