Welll...thank you all for being supportive. I am expecting the mainstream "community" or whatever to pan the book. I didn't set out to fling arrows, just to promote another approach---which I imagine most of all of you already know of and to varying degrees are already practicing----not because it's mine or I say it's good, but because it works for you. The thing is, we are living in a bubble which understands the benefits of, say, a little more tire volume and a little less pressure, or having room to mount fenders, or being able to raise handlebars by loosening the stem bolt. Nobody here boasts about sub-6hour centuries, or that kind of stuff. It's more...hey, let's meet up here and then and have good time riding together. These aren't original ideas, and I'm not the leader of 'em, and RIVforum riders aren't the only ones who ride this way...BUT it is not the face of bicycle riding that gets presented and glorified and espoused to the innocent adult who goes into a typical (not Hiawathaesque) bike shop and wants to buy a bike and start riding it. If that guy (or woman) has money and misplaced faith in the salesperson, s/he's going to get on a bike looking kind of like a former pro racer gone to seed. So most of the book suggests alternatives to this or that, and there's a bit of good/bad in it. I also gotta say that I hope when a viewpoint is expressed that....errr...you don't agree with, that you'll just write "bullsh*t!" on that page and turn to something that makes sense for you. The likelihood that anybody reading this will agree with it all is slim (and the prospect, scary!) Anyway, racers won't like it, and so...your support here means a lot to me. I don't assume that support...I mean, I like what I'm reading now, for sure, but don't hold me to too high-a standard! G
