I too was consternated by this dilemma.
I run my Dinotte on low/no flash and my Planet Bike blinkeys blink'n.
The Dinotte on flashing is just totally over the top.
I've been using this set up for several years and haven't had any problems with 
seizures or appoplexy near as I can tell.
Of course I've got spots in front of my eyes so I may have been missing some 
things.
