Living in the mountains, I'm very happy to have a 30/46 compact double setup. 
With a 12-32 cassette in back I can spin my steel bike up most things. Barcons 
make front dérailleur trimming easy. If I had loaded bags on board I suppose 
I'd be happy to have a triple, but as it is I appreciate the elegance of the 
50.4 bcd cranks. Knees are still good, touch wood.
