+1 for 'don't worry about that at all'.  I just acquired a steel frameset 
in which the steel chainstay is squished so far that the tube walls meet in 
the middle.  And that's the right chainstay.  It's squished like that to 
maximize chainring clearance and tire clearance.  It's not the way GP would 
have done it, but it is totally common.
