Interesting incident on today's ride--stopped to help a cyclist who was riding
waaay out in country on a cruiser bike, which was fully loaded with an
assortment of baggage. As I was helping fix her flat tire, she told me that she
was heading for San Francisco, and that she had started from Spokane, WA ... On
foot!

She had walked most of the way from Washington state--the bike was given to her
by someone in Sacramento. Just to have ridden her heavy one-speed bike from
Sacramento (a distance of some 50 miles) was an accomplishment in itself, but
walking from Spokane is just mind-boggling. She seemed nice--had no money, but
accepted my help and didn't ask for anything else. What a tough person--and
what a tough life she must lead!
