Hey Grant, I didn't flip the guts. I used it as is out of the package. When it wouldn't work at first I thought that maybe I had to flip it but clearly I didn't have to so I left it as is. I did get it to work, it was just a bit persnickety. I have to admit that when I used it I had about 50 miles in my legs and it was raining and I was stressed about getting to camp. I'm gonna try it again when I get home tonight and make sure everything is good.
To tell you the truth, I'm just a bit too lazy to package it up and send it back but I appreciate your willingness to refund me. That's customer service! Still, I did find the Topeak to just be a bit better and would probably choose that over the Zefal.
