Many Sturmey Archer IGH's are designed around the traditional oln of 120mm, making them easy to swap in to bikes like the Quickbeam. In a few minutes time one could change out a single speed rear wheel with an SA RF8 8-speed wheel/cable/shifter unit.
The cable stop attaches to the hub assembly and the whole thing can go and off as a unit. I use a couple of zip ties to secure the cable to the down tube for easy removal. It looks like the new Jtek shifter would be a great, if pricey, way to use a barend for those (like me) who don't like grip shifters. The new 3-speed fixed comes with a barend, and a duomatic kickback wouldn't even need a cable.
