I use the cheapie Pyramid brand tensioner that Performance, Nashbar, etc all relabel. It's worked fine in my experience, although the Surly and Soulcraft look nicer. You can see mine here:

This allows me to do a tool-free switch from a road gear (say, 36 x 16) to a mountain gear (32 x 20)--just slide the chain over.
