I commute a lot and end up riding at night on city streets quite often. The helmet is one more place to stick Reflexite tape. I may have needed a helmet once when, embarrassingly I fell off my bike at a complete stop...yep. When I went down my helmet hit the pavement. Here's the thing. I can't say for sure my head would have hit the pavement if it had another inch or two for my reflexes to kick in.
