It really depends on where in Chicago. In areas where UPS thinks it's safe to leave a package they will. If they think there's a reasonable chance of theft they will not leave it. I can think of two solutions: Leave a note for the driver that you'll pick it up at the UPS facility. If the UPS facility is not convenient then check with the local UPS Store (they're everywhere) and have it delivered there for pickup. First check ti see what they charge you for this.
