I've found that all my Paselas will eventually develop sidewall problems
similar to the photo.  Mine are definitely from damage though, riding in
rocky terrain.  I have other damage from drying out in the heat that I
believe contribute to their frailty though.

I can't tell you if that's a defect or damage on yours...
