I've had three dyno tail lights die this year on two bikes. So am back to batteries. But yeah, have to remember to turn them on/off. Luckily my commute from home is always in the dark so that's a good incentive to turn the lights on.
Another strong choice is this Cateye - http://www.cateye.com/en/product_detail/280 Waterproof and better visibility than most from the sides.
