Oh I'm embarrassed... I used a gallon weighing 8.35lbs and then
converted with 64 fl oz. to the gallon.  Whooops, that's only half a
gallon!  So yeah, I was over by a factor of 2.  Sorry for spreading
misinformation -- and with such a dumb mistake!
