I'm a big fan of Arborwear pants. <http://www.arborwear.com/products/pants>
They were designed by and for tree climbers. They have a crotch gusset, smart pocket placement, and they fit well: comfortably loose but not too baggy. And they don't have that stupid hammer loop that Carharts have, the only purpose of which seems to be to get caught on things. The "Original Tree Climber's Pant" is heavy canvas similar to Carharts but my favorite is the lightweight version, a very nice weight about halfway between Levis and khakis. I haven't tried them, but they now offer a "Tech Pant" made of nylon which looks like it could be a very nice cycling pant. No ankle cinches, but I prefer reflective velcro straps anyway.
