Allow me to add my slightly more-informed two cents and say that I
would also agree. My [wholesale] distros are telling me that few of
them plan to widen their variety of 650b offerings for next year
because demand has fallen off among specialty shops and their
customers; and that demand never really took hold in the mass-produced
sector of the market.

It's a tough, tough economy out there, and a handful of enthusiasts
and two or three dedicated niche suppliers simply can't make up
sufficient numbers to keep the size growing the way it needs to to
really get Trek's or Giant's attention in a big way. If the Big Kids
are not interested, it's just not going to happen on a large scale.
