As a few folks know, my chain broke towards the end of Ron's Fixed-Gear Ride a couple weekends ago.

Not something I'd encountered before - either in terms of breakage or result - but with a few years of riding fixed, that's the first time for either. I hit the brakes quickly, but the chain looped around and jammed up the rear wheel. I had to lead it out and give a good tug on the chain as I turned the wheel backwards. Finally had the gumption to scrub it down and take a look at the damage last night. It's definitely got some gouges, but I just wanted to publicly thank Grant for spec'ing the thick-n-meaty steel dropouts on the Quickbeam. http://www.flickr.com/photos/cyclofiend/4811478864 Not pretty, but plenty left to play with. Since I was going over the frame in minute detail, I snapped some more photos of the general condition after being ridden pretty regularly for a few years. http://www.flickr.com/photos/cyclofiend/sets/72157624541784930 (I know the topic has come up a couple of times - there's a pretty good image of chainring/chainstay/chainring bolt/bb lug clearance.) - Jim -- Jim Edgar [email protected] Cyclofiend Bicycle Photo Galleries - http://www.cyclofiend.com Current Classics - Cross Bikes Singlespeed - Working Bikes "Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it."
