I know you said "larger tire Riv", but does that also apply to wheel size? 
An older Toyo-built Atlantis in a 56cm size that takes 26" wheels would 
definitely be "equivalent" upgrade if you're coming from an 80's 
Stumpjumper. When I put fat tires on my 26" Atlantis, it looks like a fancy 
little old-school mountain bike, and I love it!
