Will M, Having measured the width of every chainring I own, various Sugino,
Suntour, TA, Surly and Stronglight, each one is different. It doesn't
matter what the ring may be labelled as, or intended for. Crank arm spider
tabs can vary slightly in width also, but nothing like chanrings ! What you
can do is get some .6mm chainring tab spacers and place them between the
big ring and the crank spider tab. I had this issue using the Surly SS
chainring as it was just over 2mm thick, while most alloy rings are 3-3.6mm
thick. The .6mm thickness was just enough for this application though. I
bought a pack of 20 Origin8 .6mm stainless steel spacers. This will alter
the big ring chain-cog alignment slightly but it shouldn't be an issue.

A few years ago I recall Riv getting a spool of 10sp chain for in shop use
in assembling new builds. They had found the 10sp chain was a non-issue for
their cranks.
