To be more precise: I want a bike that will let me ride longer distances
(>30 miles) and climb long and steep hills comfortably as I age. But that
1999 fixed gofast is a rocket climber; problem is, it has only 1 gear (or 2
if you count the second cog on the Dingle: 75” and 67") and while the
Matthews road bike climbs well, it weighs 26 lb before bags and bottles and
it has only 2 (fixed) climbing gears, 65” and 54”. But both bikes feel fast
indeed in the terrain I am accustomed to: flat, more moderate hills or
shorter hills.
