I used to ride 2/3 of close to 4K miles per year, mostly commuting and errands, in khaki cutoff shorts (and Hawaiian shirts, in hot weather; no, not stylish). Of course, the khakis would stain from the Flite (always and everywhere, Flite) saddles. But as the very dark ovals on the back of your hands that stand out so startlingly against the lightless mushroom or fish-belly white of the surrounding skin when you wear cycling gloves in summer at 5K feet, I always thought of crotch stains as badges of honor.
Patrick “but that’s just me” Moore, whose black Rapha Randonee shorts are so comfortable and durable that I ride mostly in them nowadays, in warm weather.
