I know this is going to sound far too fancy-schmancy, but the Rapha "touring shorts" are the bomb! I have two pair and wear them as my only biking shorts. They're lightweight, have no bulky and useless chamois, slim in the leg, have some clever bike specific features (tall in back, two hidden pockets, etc) long in the leg and look pretty darned good off the bike. Swrve also have some great looking shorts. I'll be soon picking up a pair.
