The scratcher was most likely the 
protectively-covered-but-apparently-not-well-enough small screwdriver I 
used to lift the edge of the grip, to enable the syringe needle to deliver 
alcohol.

The scratches themselves are more like light smooth abrasions. They have no 
readily discernable depth.
