My solution has always been to remove all the components I suspect the noise is 
located, thoroughly clean and re-grease or add other lubricants. Sometimes it 
takes some investigation since what is causing the noise may present itself in 
another location due to how steel frames flex when pedaling. For example, what 
may seem like a seatpost tick could actually be coming from the saddle or 
saddle rails.
