I, too, am a CR720 convert. I find that the straddle carrier must be set fairly high with drop levers, and will clear a mini front rack and fender. With flat-bar mtb levers, the straddle carrier must go even higher. I'm using koolstop Mountain pads.
Occasionally I get some shudder in front, but I haven't even tried to address that yet.
